Edward J. Laskarzewski, 92, of New Britain, died peacefully on Saturday, Sept. 30, 2017. He was one of six children born in New Britain to the late Francis and Alexandra (Dlugokenski) Laskarzewski. A decorated veteran, Edward proudly served his country in the 245th Engineer Combat Battalion of the U.S. Army during WWII. He was honorably discharged with commendations and was awarded several medals. He was a very independent, self-taught handyman who loved woodworking, and building projects with his Boy Scout Troop. He was employed by Fafnir Bearing and later on at Textron for many years. A parishioner of Sacred Heart Church, he was a member of the Holy Name Society and a member of the American Legion Post#6 in New Britain. Edward’s fun-loving, kind, gentle nature and smile will be forever missed by all who knew and loved him.
Left to mourn his passing is Genevieve (Rakuza) Laskarzewski, his beloved wife of 68 years; his children: Edward A. Laskarzewski and his wife Marilyn Walsh of Glastonbury, Mary Ellen Laskarzewski of New Britain and Karen Laskarzewski of Portsmouth, R.I.; his grandson Nathan Laskarzewski, and numerous nieces and nephews. Edward was predeceased by his son, David Laskarzewski, and all his siblings: Leonard, Joseph, John and Casimir Laskarzewski and Hedwig “Hattie” Lewandowski.
Funeral Services will begin at 8:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Oct. 3, from the Burritt Hill Funeral Home, 332 Burritt St., New Britain followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. at Sacred Heart Church, New Britain. He will be laid to rest in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call on Monday, Oct. 2, from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Burritt Hill.
