NEW BRITAIN - Kyle Simon had every reason to want to put June behind him.
A month to the day of his last victory, the right-hander officially got back in the win column.
Simon threw six strong innings, giving up four hits and two unearned runs as the New Britain Bees beat the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs 5-2 and took the three-game set at New Britain Stadium Sunday afternoon.
The Bees have now won eight of their last 10 games and sit 1½ games behind the Somerset Patriots for first place in the Liberty Division standings.
Jonathan Galvez led New Britain with two RBI - a sacrifice fly to get the Bees on the board in the second and a single to score Matt Tuiasosopo in the fourth.
Overall, seven different New Britain players recorded a hit with Tuiasosopo collecting two and four different players drove in a run.
Darren Ford and Tuiasosopo put the Bees up 4-2 in the fifth with a home run and single respectively, while Jason Rogers capped off the team’s scoring with an RBI single two innings later.
After Simon exited the game, Josh Outman, Sam Gervacio, Adam Loewen and Eric Scribner combined to throw three scoreless innings and did not yield a hit.
