NEW BRITAIN - The New Britain Bees have traded right-hander Eric Fornataro.
The reliever was sent to the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs Monday afternoon to complete a trade that led to the Bees acquiring outfield Jamar Walton prior to the season.
Fornataro had an up and down two seasons with the club. He joined New Britain last season after being released by the Baltimore Orioles organization and was later cut by the Bees only to be brought back for the final month of the season.
This year, Fornataro started in the rotation before being moved back to the bullpen. In 15 games, including nine starts, he went 0-2 with a 5.85 ERA.
To fill Fornataro’s spot on the roster, New Britain has brought back starting pitcher Casey Coleman.
The right-hander made two starts for the Bees in the beginning of the season before being signed out by the Houston Astros organization.
But Coleman struggled in 12 starts with Triple-A Fresno. He compiled a 3-5 with a 7.03 ERA, 56 strikeouts and 32 walks in 64 innings pitched.
