To the Editor:

I am excited to support Mayor Ellen, my councilmen in the first district: Greg Hahn and Scott Rosado along with our BOE candidates on Nov. 2.

I was appointed to the Youth Commission last year and serve alongside Councilman Rosado. The merger of the Youth & Community Services Dept with the Parks Dept has been a really positive thing for the City, with so many new partnerships between them. Youth programs are often held now in the Parks, Community Services staff is cross-training.

Parks maintenance workers who may encounter people in the park who possibly need services for homelessness or recovery support; and there are also several projects with the Public Works Dept., the police and the Board of Education.  This is all good practice for next year when the BOE and the City jointly open the new magnet arts school and theater. Our new Arts & Culture supervisor is busy planning all kinds of shows for the theater while also managing parks and youth services programs that involve arts and culture. As one of the younger people to be serving on a Commission, I like being a part of city government where my voice is heard.
