YOUR VIEW: It's time to shake up the state legislature

To the Editor:

Does anyone else think that the Republican signs that say “Take Back CT” are funny? Especially since Whit Betts has been there for 10 years and is running again, even after introducing a term limits bill for 10 years last year; and Cara Pavalock and Henri Martin have each been there for 6 years. This is a combined 22 years of service with no list of substantive accomplishment other than helping constituents navigate bureaucracy.

Being in the minority without the influence to create change or have a seat at the table isn’t good for Bristol. But it does allow for a lot of sitting back and criticizing the issues being debated on the floor. There are term limits on the mayor and City Council thanks to the Republican City Council who voted it in 7 years ago. But there are no term limits for state officials, who, if they stay there long enough, will receive lifetime health benefits and a pension. And we all know what the Washington swamp looks like without Congressional term limits.

It’s time to shake things up and vote for representation that delivers results, not just hand sanitizer and pretty brochures to our doors.
