To the Editor:

I have known United State Representative John Larson since he was first elected to the state Senate almost 40 years ago. We served together and he soon showed that he was an outstanding leader on issues important, both to his district and our state.

Congressman Larson focused on health care and family issues, advocating for the first-in-the-nation family leave laws. This allows parents to take unpaid time off from work with continued health coverage to care for their newborns during this very stressful time. This law proved so beneficial to families that Congress made it the law of the land more than 25 years ago.

Congressman Larson strongly supported Patient Protection and the Affordable Care Act, also known as Obamacare, which forbids discrimination by insurance companies against people with pre-existing conditions and extended group health care to young adults up to 26 years old. He also successfully fought against the coldhearted efforts by the Republicans in Congress and President Trump to repeal this law.

I am extremely impressed with how Congressman Larson stays close to the people of his district with regular town halls and public forums and issues concerning the coronavirus, jobs and social security. He is approachable and listens to his constituents. Congressman Larson is everything one could ask for in a public servant.
