To the Editor,
As a former city treasurer and now a colleague with Tom Barnes Jr. on the city’s Retirement Board, I was very happy to see the Bristol Democratic Party and our Mayor continue to put Bristol first. The decision for Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu and Barnes to go to Charter Revision to ask them to make this an appointed position to ensure that a qualified person is chosen to serve in the role is a good one. The decision for the Democrats to cross-endorse Tom for the position of City Treasurer is an even better one. The city’s pensions are in great shape and it is because that , for years, politics has not been a part of these decisions.
