To The Editor:

No sprinklers, fire escapes, and didn’t hear any alarms at 180 Allen Street. Kudo’s to the North-Oak NRZ for helping the families that were displaced by the fire. I understand there is an on-going investigation as to the cause of the fire however, I want to know why the owner of the property, Springwood Gardens LLC, is operating rental property that is (for all intents and purposes) unsafe for tenants. A tenant shouldn’t have to evacuate her 3rd floor apartment through the window because she felt trapped (there was no alarm system in place and no safe exit strategy). This incident just seems to exemplify how some property owners put rental profit before tenant safety.
