To The Editor:
The American Legion Auxiliary is a remarkable organization with nearly one million women across the country. We are the largest women’s patriotic organization in the nation devoted to America’s veterans, active duty military, their families, young people and communities. You may have seen us distributing our trademark crepe poppies, which are handmade in our state.
We will celebrate our 100th anniversary this year on Nov. 10.
Are you a woman looking for ways to engage in meaningful community service?
Right now, we are looking for women of all ages who share our vision of “service not self.” We are seeking new members at all our local units.
You may join the American Legion Auxiliary if you are a mother, wife, sister, daughter, granddaughter or great granddaughter of a veteran of World War I or II, Korean War, Vietnam, Lebanon/Grenada, Panama, the Persian Gulf War, Operation Iraqi Freedom and Operation Enduring Freedom. Females who served in these conflicts may also join us.

The mission of the American Legion Auxiliary is to support The American Legion and honor the sacrifice of those who serve and still serving by enhancing the lives of our veterans, active duty military and their families, both at home and abroad.
Nationally, our volunteers spend an average of $15.5 million hours each year serving our veterans and communities. One billion in resources is raised and spent on veterans and military families. Nationally, the American Legion Auxiliary presents $1.4 million in scholarships to our youth.
In Connecticut we have 85 local units. In Hartford County we have 17 to choose from.
I would be delighted to help anyone who is interested find a local Auxiliary unit. We need many hearts and hands to accomplish our mission.
Those interested in joining can contact me at email@example.com or 860-616-2343.
