To The Editor:
I am writing today in support of the Stand Up for the Climate Action and Energy Equity Rally happening at the State Capitol on April 14 at 1 p.m.
This rally calls all climate action seekers and defenders of the planet; those who value energy efficiency, conservation, clean energy, economic growth, environmental advocacy, human health, clean public transportation, local green jobs, healthy and affordable housing, and water as a public right.
The rally will bring together the environmental advocacy community, our youth, and environmental justice communities to form an unstoppable coalition to bring equitable and just solutions to our climate crisis. The time is now for action! We call on our elected leaders to stop diverting Energy Efficiency and Clean Energy Funds; ensure equal access to efficiency and clean energy programs; lower energy waste and pollution; close the affordability gap and invest in a clean energy future; and expand programs that cut waste and lower carbon emissions.
Some of the policy goals we are asking for are to restore and expand our energy efficiency and renewable energy programs; create a path for increased energy equity; ensure all programs have an equity lens, including transportation; and include underrepresented communities at the table and empower them with information.
The rally will feature speakers from the environmental community, justice communities, and state legislator allies. There will be music, food trucks, and activities for the children. It is going to be a great community day for the city of Hartford and for the state of Connecticut.
I urge all people, from all walks of life, to attend this rally on April 14. Connecticut, the nation, and the world cannot afford to wait on these issues. If you care about environmental justice, if you care about the planet we live on, if you care about affordable and just climate solutions, if you care about energy equity, this is the place for you!
