YOUR VIEW: Police shooting case is not about race

To The Editor:

I saw the videotape and it shows the deceased driving in an erratic/dangerous manner that would harm the police officers (and any other potential bystander) as they pursued him for crimes he was suspected of committing. The NBPD was absolutely justified in their actions.

What really irritates me is that the family has filed a civil lawsuit against the city. The fact is, their son was involved with criminal activity, and the they should not receive any compensation from the City of New Britain or the NBPD for his death.

What I’d like to know is why was a so-called up and coming “rap” star named “Gangstalicious” involved with criminal activity in the first place and not focusing on his “rap” star career?

Maybe if he had focused on his “rap” career, he might possibly earn $6.5 million over time (but I doubt it). This case is not about “race.” It’s about stopping criminal/violent activity in our city.

I think the parents of these boys should be questioning their own failures to properly raise decent, law-abiding citizens who contribute to the community vs. trying to blame the NBPD for their children’s negative and destructive behavior.
