To The Editor:
I urge all voters in the 24th House District to vote to reelect Rep. Rick Lopes.
Rep. Lopes is a progressive champion working hard for the people of New Britain. Because of his leadership, the City of New Britain saw multiple increases in the education cost sharing grant, which resulted in millions of more dollars in state funding to the New Britain Public School system.
He was a vocal advocate in capping the vehicle tax, which resulted in hundreds of dollars in savings to the average taxpayer here in our communities. Additionally, he voted to raise the minimum wage, he supports paid family medical leave, and he has been working hard to implement policies which results in job growth and economic development here in both New Britain and Newington by allocating funding and resources to train people for the jobs of tomorrow.
While his opponent over the course of her 10 years in office had repeatedly sought to raise taxes by advocating for multimillion-dollar increases to the Board of Education budget, Rep. Lopes has taken the opposite approach by providing tax relief to small businesses and by expanding the tax base here in our communities.
As a business owner, he understands that people are struggling and that is why he has advocated for lower local taxes, better jobs, and more opportunity.
And unlike his opponent, he doesn’t have to hide behind a cheap political slogan, and you never have to be confused about what political party he’s affiliated with because he is truthful and blunt about what he stands for and what he believes in.
He’s honest, hardworking, dedicated, and he works for everyone regardless of their political ideology or party affiliation as he understands that our communities succeed when everyone is well off.
He’s not into political games or gimmicks. He’s a small business owner and a lifelong volunteer in our community, and that is why he’s doing such a great job representing our communities in Hartford!
I support Rick Lopes for state representative and I ask everyone to please vote for Rick Lopes and all the row A candidates on Tuesday Nov. 6.
