To The Editor:

In response to the recent Herald editorial concerning how to pay for infrastructure repair, I propose setting up infrastructure “war bonds” similar to what was done at the federal level during WWII, where individuals could invest in bonds which the government used to fund the war effort.

Why can’t we have a program where citizens could invest in bridge bonds, or highway bonds, or water system bonds for repairing or replacing deteriorating infrastructures in their cities or towns? Targeted public involvement for such projects would stir patriotic interest and could lower the interest rate, thus saving money while making everyone feel good about the process.
