Former Central Connecticut State University football standout Jake Dolegala was waived Tuesday by the New England Patriots, ending his second stint with the team.
The quarterback spent most of last season on the Patriots’ practice squad before leaving the team. Earlier this year he joined the Green Bay Packers in the midst of Aaron Rodgers uncertainty of returning to the team.
Two days after being waived by the Packers the Patriots picked him up to compete as a fourth-string option in camp. He only logged a handful of competitive reps behind former MVP Cam Newton, 2021 first-round pick Mac Jones and experienced veteran Brian Hoyer.
It is presumed Dolegala was a replacement for Jarrett Stidham, who underwent back surgery over the offseason. Stidham is expected to be sidelined until late October, but has been present at training camp.
The waiving of Dolegala creates open spot on the 90-man roster for the Patriots as Week 1 of preseason action approaches.
