BRISTOL – Ten runs in the fifth inning powered New Hampshire past Maine, 19-1, during a New England Region elimination game Wednesday during the Little League East Regional at Breen Field.
Already ahead 9-1, North Manchester-Hookset New Hampshire pounded out 10 hits to enforce the run-rule and end the game an inning early.
A three-run homerun from Tyler Chauvette did the most damage against Saco/Dayton Maine during the fifth, with two-RBI singles from both Mason DeVall and Jacoby Acevedo totaling four more runs.
Tristan Lucier led the offense for New Hampshire, as the No. 3 batter bashed four hits and five RBIs. Dom LaBranche also managed four hits on the afternoon, all singles.
Keith Townsend earned the win on the mound for New Hampshire, allowing one run on four hits and added four strikeouts and on walk.
Three runs in the first inning put New Hampshire ahead early, with a two-run homerun from Cal Lucier pushing the lead to 3-0.
Tristan Lucier brought in Dom LaBranche with a RBI single for New Hampshire's first run, while Jacoby Acevedo also managed a hit in the frame.
New Hampshire registered two more runs in the third, the first coming on a RBI double off the bat of Tristan Lucier. A passed ball scored the next run, giving the visitors a 5-0 advantage.
Maine cut its deficit to four runs on a one-run single from Colton Cross during the bottom half of the third, scoring Quinn Cook who singled.
New Hampshire came right back in the fourth, posting four runs on five hits. Tristan Lucier and Keith Townsend each smacked two-run singles, while Ryan Gaspie, Timmy Evans and LaBranche contributed base-knocks to make it 9-1 New Hampshire.
The hitting parade continued into the fifth as New Hampshire ran away with the victory to advance to the loser's bracket final.
When it was all said and done, the winners compiled 21 hits while Maine concluded with four. Quinn Cook had half of Maine's hits, posting two singles in the defeat
Maine beat New Hampshire 5-0 in both team's opening games on Sunday, before New Hampshire exacted revenge in the rematch.
New Hampshire will play the loser of Thursday's Connecticut-Massachusetts game on Friday at 1 p.m.
