BRISTOL - Leading 3-2 heading into the fifth inning against Vermont, a four-run frame cost the Madison Little League baseball team in a 6-3 loss on Sunday night.

The Connecticut state champions had tied the Little League Baseball New England Regional Tournament game at 2-2 in the third inning, as Nicholas Maynard roped a two-run double to center field to score Christian Kells and Chase Geremia. Connecticut added the go-ahead run in the fifth on an RBI groundout by Maynard to plate Geremia.

Things unraveled in the bottom half, however, as Will Eaton tied the game with an RBI double, and he scored moments later to put Vermont (1-0) ahead for good. Brayden Larson reached base on a dropped third strike, and Eaton sprinted home on an error soon afterward.

Vermont added two insurance runs in the inning, one on a wild pitch, and another dropped third strike allowed the inning to continue, as Ryan Walker drove in the final run on an RBI single.

Connecticut (0-1) will face elimination at 7 p.m. Tuesday against either Massachusetts or New Hampshire, while Vermont faces Rhode Island in a winner’s bracket game at 7 p.m. today.
