The Bristol American Legion baseball team is preparing for its upcoming 91st season, and a new try-out procedure has been implemented by the national organization.

All candidates must first register by using the web site and filling out the Form 2 document, both returning and new players. The deadline is May 23.

Tryouts will begin on Sunday, May 26, and Monday, May 27, at 11 a.m. at the Bristol Eastern High School field. Practices on weekdays will be at 5 p.m. All candidates must have completed their high school season.

Questions should be directed to coach Jerry LaPenta at 860-995-6296.

Volunteer helpers are needed during the season. Those interested should attend a meeting at the Legion on May 16 at 6:30 p.m.

The new league will include Southington, Hartford, Berlin, Newington and West Hartford this year, while Torrington moves to another league. Bristol, Avon, Winsted, Simsbury and Plainville remain in league.

The Bristol Senior team qualified for the state tournament last year, while the Bristol Junior team won the state tournament and New England regional titles last season.
