The 24th Annual Shawn Reeder Scholarship was awarded June 13 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury. Reeder, the son of John and Helen Reeder of Southbury and Niantic, died in an automobile accident in 1994 at age 20.

He was a lifelong competitive swimmer who was passionate about the sport and swam for the University of Connecticut. The scholarship is awarded to a college-bound Pomperaug High senior with a competitive swimming background.

This year’s recipient is Hallie Ann Perrin of Middlebury, daughter of Gregg and Greta Perrin. The scholarship, in the amount of $1,000, was presented by 9-year-old Jack Reeder, Shawn’s nephew. Jack is the son of Kevin and Kristen Reeder of Bristol.

Perrin was a four-year varsity swimmer and captain during her senior year. She was named an All-State swimmer her senior year. Her academic honors include the National Honor Society during her junior and senior years and the Science Honor Society, also during her junior and senior years.

Perrin plans to attend Central Connecticut State University in the fall, where she will continue her swimming career and pursue a Bachelor of Arts in the social sciences.
