BRISTOL - It was quite the season for the Northeast Middle School softball team.
It never mattered what team the Tigers players. Behind a strong group of eighth graders, Northeast saw nine opponents and came away with nine wins to finish out its year undefeated.
“The kids had a great season,” Tigers coach Vinny Guarda said. “We had fantastic pitching and defense all year long and was a total team effort. We had contributions from all 13 members of the team. The kids played hard and it was a pleasure to coach this team.”
One of the catalysts for Northeast was Ali Tellier. She pitched the first five games of the season, allowing just one earned run and four hits in 28 innings pitched. Tellier also struck out 71 hitters before missing the final four games with an injury.
But she was also key at the plate. Tellier batter .857 with 12 runs scored and nine RBI.
From there, Aubrey Wolfradt and Sarah Snedeker continued to dominate opponents from the pitching circle. Wolfradt pitched the sixth and seventh games of the season and won both, while Snedeker tossed the final two games. She won both of her outings as well.
At the plate we were led by four 8th graders. Hannah Webber batted .629 (17-27) with 13 runs scored and 11 runs batted in. Taylor Lorenzetti batted .484 (15-31) with 15 runs scored and 14 runs batted in. Sophia Bouchard batted.483 (14-29) with 19 runs scored and 10 runs batted in and Janessa Gonzalez batted .464 (13-28) with 19 runs scored and 10 runs batted in.
