BRISTOL - After tying the game innings earlier, Sarah Romano stepped into the batter’s box in the bottom of the eighth inning with Taylor Lorenzetti on second base in scoring position.

Once again, Romano delivered in the clutch situation and ripped a line drive to right-center field that scored Lorenzetti and walked off the Bristol Blast with a 4-3 victory over the Bristol Nitro Wednesday night.

“I was so happy especially the first time when I just hit to get it tied,” Romano said. “It was the greatest feeling ever. The second I felt the ball hit my bat to win the game it was awesome, it felt amazing and I don’t think I’ll feel that again.”

Coming into the sixth inning, the Blast were down 3-1. Lorelei Stancavage started the inning off with a bang by hitting an inside the park home run to right field in the same spot she had hit the ball in her last at bat which was a triple.

“It was awesome,” Stancavage said. “I practice hitting all the time. I just had hitting lessons yesterday.”

Following the home run, Lorenzetti hit a double and Romano singled her in to tie the ballgame.

After giving up the lead, Ashley Serafin battled back and retired the next three Blast batters.

Serafin pitched an outstanding game. She tossed a complete game for Nitro and struck out eight.

“Ashley pitches awesome. She’s always a challenge,” Blast manager Tom Policki said. “She’s got a great changeup when it’s on and keeps the batters off their feet. Always a challenge playing her.”

While Serafin was awesome, her opposing pitcher Alex Sciarretto was equally impressive. She pitched seven innings and her and Serafin were going pitch for pitch all night long.

Sciarretto struck out 15 batters in the game.

“I’d rather have a competition because I feel like it challenges me more to be better,” Sciarretto said. “I like having competition because it makes me feel like I’m not the best but not the worst.”

Nitro held a 2-0 lead earlier in the evening off of an Aubrey Wolfradt RBI triple and Sophia Bouchard scored on a passed ball.

The Blast struck for their first run in the bottom of the fourth inning on a RBI single from Lorenzetti that scored Stancavage following her triple.

The trio of Romano, Stancavage and Lorenzetti to go with the fearless pitching of Sciarretto was just enough for the Blast to pull it off.

Romano was 3-for-4 with two doubles and a single. She had two RBI and stole a base.

Stancavage finished 4-for-4 in the game. Along with the homer and triple she added a pair of singles.

Lorenzetti had three hits including two doubles.

With the win, the Blast will play next on Friday. They will face the winner of the game Thursday between the Bristol Freedom and the Nitro.

For manager Policki, the day of rest is indeed a day to rest as he has great confidence in his group.

“I’m going to give these girls a day off tomorrow,” Policki said. “No practices just relax. They all know what to do.”
