LITTLE LEAGUE ROUNDUP: Pennsylvania, New Jersey are winners in Mid-Atlantic Regional

BRISTOL - Pennsylvania’s Upper Providence Little League scored eight runs in the bottom of the second inning on its way to a 10-5 victory over Maryland’s Thurmont Little League in the Mid-Atlantic Regional Tournament on Monday night.

Cole Nilles (2-for-4, 2 runs, 4 RBI) hit a three-run double to highlight Pennsylvania’s big second inning, turning what had been a 4-3 deficit into a 6-4 lead at the time. He had also given his team the early 1-0 lead with a solo home run in the first inning.

E.J. Lowry hit a solo home run for Maryland and Logan Simanski followed with a three-run shot in the top of the second to give Thurmont Little League the brief lead. Josh Skowronski also homered for the Maryland state champs.

Cam Paquette and Gage Swanger had a pair of hits each for Pennsylvania.

New Jersey 9, New York 0: Garrett Drew and Chris Cartnick combined on a one-hitter for New Jersey’s Holbrook Little League, while R.J. Vashey, Tai Mann and Cartnick (1-for-3, 3 runs, 3 RBI) all had home runs to lead the offense.

Hunter Scott pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings for New York, allowing just one hit.
