Minions from Plainville win pair of gold medals in Nutmeg State Games roller hockey tournaments

HARTFORD - The Minions from Plainville won a pair of gold medals in the Nutmeg State Games roller hockey tournament on Sunday afternoon in the Koeppel Community Sports Center at Trinity College.

After beating the Mahopac Indians 10-0 and Rhode Island 8-0 on Saturday, the 10 & under Minions squad crushed the Crusaders 10-0 on Sunday to finish first in pool play and earn a spot in the gold medal game, where they beat Rhode Island 6-1.

In the 12 & under bracket, the Minions beat the Wolfpack 10-0 and the Mahopac Indians 6-1 on Saturday to earn a spot in Sunday’s gold medal game. In the championship contest, the Minions beat the Wolfpack 9-2.

The East Coast Mustangs won the 14 & under bracket, topping the CT Snipers 4-3 in the gold medal game. The East Coast Mustangs, CT Snipers and Mahopac Indians all finished 3-1 after a tightly-contested pool play round.

The next scheduled event for the Nutmeg State Games is the girls soccer tournaments, which begin Thursday.
