The Bristol Soccer Club’s U12 Girls Thunder travel team recently won the Central District Spring League championship and was runner-up in the Newington Wrap-Up Tournament.
The Thunder finished the season with an overall record of 14-2-3, 6-0 in league play, a sharp turnaround from their 0-12 record last spring.
Assistant coach Tom Blanchtte credits coach Antonio Solivan and the dedication of the girls on the team for making such a great improvement.
Solivan took over the Thunder for the spring 2016 season, he noted, with its 0-12 finish marking the beginning of a transformation from a team with inexperience to a championship. In the fall of 2016, the same team that finished winless in the spring ended up 7-5 overall and 4-2 within its division, finishing in third place. Then, with the girls’ dedication and the training by coach Solivan, the team turned in a championship season this spring.
“I think it’s important to recognize not only the great coaching, but the dedication and improvement the girls made throughout the last year to reach the goals they had set, which was bringing home a championship for Bristol,” coach Blanchtte stated.
The girls on the team are: Nadia Riemer, Skyla Sarra, Mikayla Gonzalez, Natalia Riemer, Breanna Venturo-Nelson, Brianna Solivan, Maddi Turner, Emma Ditolla, Mary Piazza, Christina Browne, Isabella Sanchez, Emily Nelson, Emily Blanchette and Kaylynn Lapointe.
