Jack Reeder, age 8, the son of Kevin and Kristen Reeder of Bristol, recently presented a scholarship that bears his late uncle’s name.

The 23rd Annual Shawn Reeder Memorial Scholarship was awarded on May 31 at Pomperaug High School in Southbury.

Shawn Reeder, the son of John and Helen Reeder of Southbury and Niantic, was killed in an automobile accident in 1994 at age 20. He was a lifelong competitive swimmer who was passionate about the sport. He swam for PHS and the University of Connecticut. The scholarship was designed to remember Shawn in a special way. It is awarded to a college-bound PHS senior with a competitive swimming background.

This year’s recipient of the $1,000 scholarship is Jason Anderson of Southbury, son of Brian and Kari Anderson.

Jason Anderson was a four-year varsity swimmer for PHS and team captain during his senior year. He achieved All-State status both his junior and senior years. In addition, he was named to the all-conference academic team all four years.

His other academic honors included Connecticut Association of Public Schools Superintendents Award in 2012 and 2017 and National Merit Commended Scholar in 2016.
