Saturday, May 26, is the date for open casting for this year’s Miss Polonia Connecticut and Miss Polonia Connecticut Teen pageants. It will be held from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Cieplinski residence at 9 Sunnyledge St., New Britain.
Contestants in the Miss Polonia Connecticut pageant must be 17 to 27 years old, single and never married, and have no children and no tattoos. They also must have permanent residence in this area. The teen pageant is open to girls 12 to 17 years old.
According to pageant director Bogusia Gladysz, Miss Polonia Connecticut and two runners-up will receive scholarships and other prizes and gifts. All three will also be eligible to compete in the Miss Polonia USA pageant in New York City.
Registration starts at 11 a.m. Saturday and will include interviews with a three-person committee. Photographs will also be taken during the open casting session. The entire session could run long, Gladysz said - possibly as late as 3 p.m.
The reigning Miss Polonia Connecticut is Nicole Janusz of New Britain, who was crowned last September at the Polish National Home in Hartford. The date and location of this year’s pageant will be announced sometime after Saturday’s open casting session.
Winners of the pageant can be seen throughout the year at Polish festivals and other events throughout the state, Gladysz said. In past years, Miss Polonia Connecticut winners have also done charity work, a tradition that the new Miss Polonia Connecticut is sure to continue.
