BRISTOL – Local police and firefighters recovered a man’s body from the Pequabuck River along Memorial Boulevard Saturday morning.

The victim, who has not been identified, was seen floating face-up in the river when he was recovered shortly before noon behind the Gasman gas station, located at 180 Riverside Ave. Detectives said they are investigating the circumstances surrounding the man's death.

An autopsy is scheduled for Sunday morning, sometime after which police said they will release further details.

According to police, it is not believed that the man's body was carried in the water to where it was located. The water is shallow enough that it likely did not move from where it entered the river, police said. However, police are still investigating.
