SOUTHINGTON - A fire occurred in a factory that injured two in the Plantsville section of town Sunday afternoon is under investigation by the fire marshal.

Firefighters were deployed to Rex Forge at 355 Atwater St. around 2 p.m., where they discovered heavy smoke coming from exterior vents and doorways at the rear of the building.

“They found a large machine press engulfed in fire,” Deputy Fire Chief Scott DiBattista said.

Firefighters were able to contain the flames and the fire was reported knocked down at around 2:30 p.m.

The street was closed for a portion of the afternoon but has since reopened.

“Two employees were treated for minor injuries at an area hospital,” DiBattista said.

Fire units from Bristol Meriden and Cheshire assisted Southington in the response.
