Popsicles, Lego movie highlight children's programs for June

PLAINVILLE - Plainville Public Library has announced several upcoming children’s programs.

The following free programs will be held at the library at 56 E. Main St. Those who wish to participate can register at the library or by calling 860-793-1450.

“Picture Books and Popsicles” will be held Fridays at 11 a.m. from June 23 to August 18, weather permitting.  Participants are encouraged to bring a towel and enjoy a popsicle provided by the library while listening to a picture book story outside in the Children’s garden area. Registration not required.

“All About Bees!” will be held June 24 at 11 a.m. for all ages. Participants are invited to come meet “The Bee Lady”, Catherine Wolko of the Humble Bee Honey Company LLC and learn why these creatures are so important. They will also get to enjoy some bee-themed activities.

“Around the World with the Very Hungry Caterpillar International Storytime” will be held June 26 and 6:30 p.m. for ages 3 and older. Participants will read The Very Hungry Caterpillar in both English and Albanian.  A simple craft and Albanian food samples will follow.  There will be a German version in July and a Polish version in August. 

The Lego Batman Movie will be shown June 28 at 6 p.m. for all ages. Guests are invited to bring a blanket and some dinner and enjoy a movie in the library auditorium. 

The library will host a Creative Dramatics Workshop June 29 for ages 5 to 7 from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and for ages 8 to 10 from 6:30 to 7:45 p.m.  Ingrid Schaeffer, Chair of ACES Educational Center for the Arts Theatre Dept., will lead participants in theatre games and improvisations and a production of the story The Great Kapok Tree.

Additionally, Summer Library Adventures Logs are now available for pickup at the Plainville Public Library children’s department. There are log sheets for toddlers and preschoolers and passport books for children going into Kindergarten and older. There will be new books given to all who complete the program and raffle options for passport logs.
