BRISTOL - Computer Development Systems Inc. has been meeting Connecticut’s IT needs for 37 years.

Family-owned and operated, the business was started Aug. 1, 1981, by Rick and Rose Parenti out of their home in Terryville. In 1984, they moved to a storefront at 63 North St. in Bristol. As the business grew, it was apparent that a bigger location was needed and a 1996 move to 132 Riverside Ave., where they continue to operate, took place.

“We pride ourselves on building relationships with our clients. We really focus on developing close relationships with our customers and becoming an extension of their business,” said Tony Parenti, who now co-owns the company with his mother, Rose, since his father died in 2008.

Computer Development Systems, a managed service provider, does IT sales and services for small- to medium-sized businesses in Bristol and the surrounding area. It specializes in hardware and software implementation, internet security appliances, remote monitoring and management, and business continuity/disaster recovery services.

“We monitor and manage the IT infrastructure remotely,” Parenti continued. “Whether it’s servers, workstations, antivirus/antimalware, or various other network appliances, we develop a proactive, rather than a reactive, IT environment for our clients.”

“It’s an ever-evolving industry, so we have to keep our services evolving along with it,” he said.

Each client has a representative come out to their business to do a site survey. The client and Computer Development Systems then discuss what IT problems the business frequently has, and what its short and long-term goals are.

The company tailors each IT plan to clients based on their needs.

“It’s not really a one-plan-fits-all scenario,” Parenti said. “Each business is unique in their needs and we build out the most cost-effective solution to accomplish their goals.”

Computer Development Systems also offers managed backup solutions, including business continuity/disaster recovery planning. If a client’s critical systems go down, Parenti said, “we can help keep their business up and running with extremely minimal downtime.”

Parenti said the business also specializes in migration to cloud-based services, including Office 365 and G Suite.

“Migrating to the cloud has really become a great option for businesses looking to minimize their internal ongoing IT hardware and software costs. What companies must keep in mind, though, is that cloud-based services such as Office 365 or G Suite do not inherently back up their data,” he explained.

“As a managed service provider, we can offer our clients the right tools to not only migrate from on-premise to cloud-based services, but to also back up their cloud data at a granular level, keep their data secure and meet any compliancy needs they may have,” he said.
