BRISTOL - U.S. Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross has recognized 43 companies and organizations that export U.S. goods and services with the 56th annual Presidential “E” Award - including Bristol’s Beekley Medical.
The award is the highest recognition any U.S. entity can receive for making a significant contribution to the expansion of U.S. exports.
This year’s honorees helped contribute to exporting more than $2 trillion worth of U.S. goods and services in 2017, and nearly 11 million American jobs were supported by exports in 2016.
This year, 25 companies and organizations were honored for demonstrating a sustained increase in export sales over a four-year period. One was Beekley Medical, which invests in research and development of simple, low-cost, disposable products that help medical imaging, surgical and radiation oncology professionals improve communication, productivity and patient care. Beekley Corp., a leading supplier of niche medical and hospitality products created a specially constructed Beekley Growth & Innovation Center in Bristol in 2009.
“Beekley is just one of Bristol’s many successful companies that supply goods and services to the U.S. and the rest of the world,” said Mayor Ellen Zoppo-Sassu. “It’s recognition as a President’s ‘E’ Award winner reaffirms that Beekley is not only a leader in its field but also creating quality solutions worldwide. Beekley began in 1934 as a printing and lithograph company but now is the prime prototype of how companies can continue to grow and look for new avenues of growth to stay competitive in the world marketplace. The company’s success also illustrates that Bristol is a fertile place to find the best talent and expertise to make a difference.”
“At Beekley Medical our focus is to make the lives of everyone we touch a little better and our goal is to help positively impact patients’ lives and improve clinical outcomes,” said Martha Flannery, vice president of sales and marketing. “To have the opportunity to do this for patients all over the world is exciting and meaningful for us. We were delighted to earn the President’s E Award and are excited to continue to serve patients around the world in the future.”
