BRISTOL - Quality service is what Funk Funeral Home has been dedicated to for 153 years.
Starting in 1865, Funk Funeral Home is the oldest ongoing funeral establishment in Bristol. It was founded by Christian Funck and he ran the business until 1888.
Following Christian Funck, the business would be in the family for four generations until Ronald F. Duhaime bought the funeral home in 1980.
Today Ronald and his wife, Emilie, and his son, Christopher, continue the legacy.
“I joined them in 1987 and I have been here ever since,” said Christopher.
Christopher graduated from the New England Institute of Applied Arts and Sciences in Boston, he is the president and managing partner of Funk Funeral Home.
“I’m actually a third generation funeral director myself. My grandfather at one time had a Duhaime Funeral Home located on West Street. When my grandfather retired we bought the business,” he added.
In 1990, the Duhaimes would purchase their family’s business, The Duhaime Funeral Home, which was established by Ronald’s parents, Edgar F. and Dorothy M. Duhaime in 1950. Ronald would relocate the Duhaime business to their Funk location on Bellevue Avenue and it operates to this day.
“We separately have the license for Duhaime Funeral Home still,” said Christopher.
With years of dedicated service to their clients under their belts, Funk’s never loses sight on what their clients need.
“It’s still a personal touch with us,” said Christopher. “There is still a face to face meeting with the families.”
Funk is with the family every step of the way. They offer burial services, as well as cremation services. They also offer pre-planning for families.
“We have a lot of people that will come in ahead of time, sit down with us and let us know what they want for their services,” said Christopher.
Technology has also become important for the funeral home, making sure they have an online presence, and they also help families share and do collages, posters and video tributes.
Funk also offers specific burial options, which are outlined on their website and below:
n Graveside funeral services, which can include involvement from a religious leader, masonic rites, military ritual, or readings from family members.
n Committal services, in which loved ones commit a loved one to the Earth - a symbolic gesture of healing.
n Immediate burials, for families who have a sudden and unexpected need to bury a loved one.
Funk’s cremation services also offers many options. For preserving the cremated remains of a loved one they have things such as urns, columbariums, cremation grave markers and more. You can also place cremated remains alongside mementos.
Funk Funeral Home has built a lot of history in the city of Bristol, they also have helped many families throughout the years.
“My parents laid the foundation for the funeral homes success and I’m proud to carry that on and contribute to the success of the funeral home,” said Christopher.
