PLYMOUTH - Cliff Jones, owner of Cliff’s Automotive, says he is fair, honest and upfront with customers and that he provides professional, quality service.

Cliff’s Auto, located at 410 Main St., is accredited by the Better Business Bureau and has earned the ASE (Automotive Seal of Excellence). Jones, an automotive mechanic for almost 30 years, opened the shop, which he runs himself with some occasional help from his wife, Laurene, in 2008. Since then, it has regularly received a “Best Of” award from Press readers.

Cliff’s Automotive offers free first-time check engine diagnostic, general repair, oil changes, tires, brakes and exhaust for cars and light trucks.

“Customers love the fact that I’m the one who personally takes care of them, not three or four other guys,” said Jones. “I make sure that the job gets done right. We can also get most parts in the same day.”

Jones always stresses that regular maintenance, oil changes and inspections are the best way to make a vehicle last. He also urges that people regularly check their tires.

“Tires are the only things that keep you connected to the road,” he said. “Most of the time, tires are underinflated. I’ve been a mechanic for 30 years and even then you can’t always eyeball it. You should always check using a tire pressure gauge. During the summer, tires tend to overinflate as the warm air within them expands. When that happens you should let some air out.” Jones said that hot weather can also cause a lot of stress to car batteries.

“If people are having a problem, the best thing they can do is get it looked at before it turns into a bigger issue. Last week I had a customer who told me that he had a loose shifter for a couple of months. Another week and it could have come apart and made the car unable to shift. All it took to fix was a minor adjustment in the linkage.”

Jones said he loves his community. He actively donates to local organizations and frequently participates in local events, such as the Pinewood Derby. Jones is also preparing to enter into the Demolition Derby at the Terryville Fair in August.

Cliff’s Automotive is open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, Wednesday 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., and 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. For more information, call 860-314-9528 or visit
