BRISTOL – Forestville American Legion Post 209 has launched a new online auction fundraiser. The post also recently honored post members and received donations in recognition of their commitment to the community.

A $250 donation was presented to the post from the “Honor Society of American Veterans of the Grand Voiture Du Connecticut” at their Sept. 20 meeting.

The award was presented by Tom Houyitski, Chef De Ger Post 40/8 Naugatuck and Bob Murray, NEC.

“We are truly honored and blessed and thank you from the bottom of our hearts,” said Post Commander Brian Avery.

The meeting also saw legionnaire Tom Martino presented with the Legionnaire of the Year award and a trophy from the post. Avery said the award recognized Martino for his “outstanding community service for the American Legion post 209 and the community.”

Additional Community Service Awards were presented to John and Jane Wright, Victor Hagerman, Tonia Lorensen and Brian Kupchak.

Also during the meeting, post member Jimmy Smith, who recently returned from a 14 month deployment overseas, tried on two new post jackets for the spring and the fall, which were donated by Primo Press.

“Thank you Jimmy for your service to this country and state,” Avery said. “All of us at the post and at Primo Press thank you for your service.”

American Legion Post 209 also announced a new online auction fundraiser for the post. The auction begins Thursday at 8 a.m. and ends Monday, Sept. 27 at 11 p.m.

“Your generosity and assistance is what keeps the American Legion Forestville Village Post 209 thriving,” Avery said. “We hope that you will participate in the auction. Thank you for your continued support.”
