BRISTOL – The Forestville Village Memorial Day Parade Committee regretfully announces that the parade has been canceled due to covid-19.
Committee member Brian Avery said that the annual parade, which had been scheduled for May 30 at 1:30 p.m. was canceled again due to the ongoing pandemic.
“Over the past couple of weeks, committee members have consulted with public officials, key sponsors and representatives of booked performers for the event regarding the impact of the covid-19 pandemic on this year’s event,” said Avery. “Based on the information gathered, the committee has made the unfortunate, but responsible, decision to not hold the event this year.”
Avery said that an event such as the Memorial Day Parade requires the financial support from many sponsors, a commitment from volunteers and a willingness of the general public to attend and support the parade.
“Due to the economic uncertainty brought on by the covid-19 pandemic, the ability to secure sponsors has proven to be understandably difficult,” said Avery. “With the need to practice ‘social distancing’ for the foreseeable future, we also anticipate difficulty in getting volunteers willing to staff the event and the general public to attend any large gathering. So, at this point in time, the committee has determined that the Forestville Village Memorial Day Parade will be canceled for this year.”
Although the Forestville Village Memorial Day Parade Committee has determined at this point in time that it is best to cancel for this year, Avery said that the committee looks forward to “getting back to work soon” on planning the 2022 Forestville Village Memorial Day Parade.
The parade has been scheduled for May 29, 2022, at 1:30 p.m. with a rain date of May 30, 2022, at 1:30 p.m.
