BRISTOL - Forestville American Legion Post 209 has begun fundraising for its annual Fishing Derby, which will be held May 19 at Rockwell Park.

The fishing derby will be held from 8 to 11 a.m. at Rockwell Park May 19.

Post Commander Brian Avery and his wife Tracy Avery, a charter member of Auxiliary Unit 209, along with his son Logan, a member of Squadron 209, recently spent a night printing out more than 900 fishing derby flyers and donation forms and putting stamps on each one.

“I can’t do it without all of you,” said Avery. “Thank you all for your help. I love you very much.”

Post 209 is now reaching out to more than 300 city businesses and asking them to get involved in supporting the derby.

The fish for the derby will cost $2,700 and Post 209 also aims to purchase 30 fishing poles, which are around $20 each.
