BRISTOL - The Forestville American Legion recently received letters commending their charitable efforts in donating hockey supplies and a bicycle to a local youth.
Brian Avery, commander of American Legion Post 209 in Forestville, said that they received the letters this week from residents who were pleased with the work that the local post had done both in Bristol and the state at large.
Brian Muritt praised the Legion for donating hockey equipment, including goaltender pads, masks and sticks, to Greater New Haven Warriors Youth Hockey.
“Your donations will help to serve youth in our local community,” he said.
Murrit also praised the Legion for donating a bicycle to a local boy. Shawna Audibert, the boy’s mother, also sent the Legion a letter thanking them for this donation.
“I would like to personally thank Commander Brian Avery of the American Legion Post 209 family for giving my son a bike through the new program he is doing; providing kids with bikes that don’t have them. My son needed a bigger bike and Brian was gracious to provide him with one a few months ago. I’m happy to say that my son rides it every day and enjoys having this to get around. Thank you for all involved in this wonderful program and thank you to Brian for his wonderful gift to my son.”
Avery said that he was proud of the support that the post received.
“I am so proud to be a part of this great organization and to reach out to the local community and support veterans throughout the United States,” said Avery. “This is another example of how we work together to support our communities throughout the state of Connecticut. On behalf of American Legion Post 209, I give a sincere thank you to all the volunteers who support us and to all Post family members, especially Bruce Barton who goes above and beyond for the post every single day. From the bottom of my heart, I wanted to say thank you. Let’s continue to do great things for the community, for the state and the country. Thank you and God bless.”
American Legion Post 209 operates out of Gloria Dei Lutheran Church at 355 Camp St. in Forestville.
