BRISTOL - A building committee is being created for the proposed Memorial Boulevard Intradistrict Arts Magnet School.
The Board of Finance made an appropriation of $325,000 for the design last month that was then approved by the Joint Board Tuesday night. On the same night, the City Council authorized the preparation of the schematic design for the proposed magnet school.
The appropriation made is considered a good faith appropriation, and is intended for the city to show the state its commitment to the project while applying for a state grant that would cover the building’s construction costs.
The Memorial Boulevard Intradistrict Arts Magnet School Building Committee will contain nine members from various city boards, the council and the public. It will first be tasked with preparing the schematic design for the proposed school for grades 6 to 12.
All members of the committee have not yet been appointed, though, representing the Board of Education on the committee will be the chair, Chris Wilson.
Cheryl Thibeault, chairwoman of the Board of Finance, nominated John Smith of the city’s finance board to be on the committee and Tony D’Amato, interim mayor, appointed Councilor Dave Preleski to the committee.
