To the Editor:
There are bills where unity can be met.
Our country is split on many issues and we now have a president who wants to build unity in a time where none exist.
I offer an opportunity to look beyond what we are currently living in. There is a bill in the senate, SJ-13, a joint resolution to repeal the authorizations for use of military force, the 2002 AUMF.
Authored by Tim Kaine (D-VA) who sits on the Senate Foreign Relations Committee. It currently has bi-partisan support, but it needs other senators to look at it.
I am requesting our senators, Chris Murphy and Richard Blumenthal to co-sign this bill and to find others in the republican party to also co-sign as Sen. Mike Lee (R-UT) and Sen. Todd Young (R-IN) have done. I thank these two for the courage to be the first to co-sign. This bill would give their constituents, us, our voices back when it comes to wars. Since the approval after 9-11 of this AUMF we have continuously been at war for 19 years which none of us could speak against as our representatives have nothing to do with starting them.
Now is the time, more than ever, to change and to give back to the congress their constitutional duties to declare war and build back the loss of confidence congress and the whole government have let slip away.
