To the Editor:
I am writing this letter to express my support for Mary Fortier for State Senate.
Many people know Mary from her distinguished record of service as a city councilwoman: the thoughtful communicator, the incisive questioner, the advocate for women, the elderly, the disabled and the homeless.
But I know Mary as a friend. I know Mary as the working mother of six children who put herself through law school. I know Mary as the caretaker of two disabled siblings and two elderly parents. I know Mary as the person who always picks up the phone when I call; who listens to my opinion, answers my questions, and respects my point of view, even when it’s different from her own.
I know Mary Fortier as a person that can be trusted to do the right thing, always, whether it is popular or not. Every TV screen in America is full of talking heads and politicians who will say and do anything to generate a few cheers or pick up a couple of votes, but that’s not what leadership is about.
I don’t know Mary’s opponent, and I sure as heck don’t know what he’s been doing up in Hartford for the better part of a decade.
But I do know Mary Fortier, and I know she’s got my vote on November 3rd. And now that you know a little bit about her, I hope she gets your vote too.
