To the Editor:

I have been following the development of the city budget and their response to COVID-19 and now how the city is handling the racial unrest following the Floyd death. While I am a generally positive person, I can’t say enough right now about how proud I am to live in Bristol.

From the rally on June 1 where police marched arm and arm with Black, Muslim, Hispanic and white residents, to the All-Heart Hotline that has been helping residents since March, I am confident in our mayor and City Council and the direction we are going.

Amidst all of this, the budget was passed this week and there is a less than 1% increase. And it was only one day later the Republican Town Chairman, Jeff Caggiano, had a letter printed misrepresenting the process and insulting the mayor.

I want to take a minute and thank the mayor and council for their dedicated efforts to keep Bristol on track with a responsible budget that is going to cost me an additional $43 a year, or $3.60 a month for the home I love off of Maple Ave. To me, it’s worth every penny for the education, clean water, recycling and community events that I enjoy.
