To The Editor:

I am writing to express my disappointment with an article that you published in The Bristol Press on Friday, January 26, 2018, titled “Terryville VFD funds missing, treasurer fired.”

While I recognize that the article contains information of interest to the community in regards to a financial situation at Terryville VFD, I question the reasoning behind including details about firefighter Mr. Wunsch’s father. The elder Mr. Wunsch and his legal charges have no relationship to the situation at the fire department. The details add no insight to the story, unless the reader is meant to draw the conclusion that the elder Mr. Wunsch’s history implicates his son or speaks to his son’s character.

I understand that the elder Mr. Wunsch’s history is a matter of public record, but its relevance to this story is unclear and generates unnecessary attention toward the family. Please realize that the family reaches well beyond the two gentlemen you wrote about, and includes children and relatives who may also be hurt in a situation that is difficult enough by itself.

The Wunsch family has had a number of challenges to face, including this unfortunate situation.

At this time, the only thing that is clear is that Mr. Wunsch has been suspended from the fire department and the police are investigating a situation for which Mr. Wunsch may or may not be found guilty.

Whether or not he is charged, every member of the family, including Mr. Wunsch, deserves the respect and care of the media at this time.

Thank you for considering my comments.
