The State of the Union address was started by George Washington, and has continued to this day. This is the president’s way of speaking to the nation, his political allies and political detractors all at once.

The State of the Union platform gives the president an opportunity to use his bully pulpit to push programs he believes the country needs and the programs he feels should be altered or stopped.

The presidential office was designed by the founders as the focal point of the American government; he is the people’s ombudsmen and cheerleader for the American economy and the No. 1 endorser for the future of our country. He tries to keep the country moving in a forward direction. Above all he must stay within the dictates of the Constitution.

America has always had the reputation as a land of opportunity and new hope a place where men and women can leave the old ways and make their own way. Make life better, more prosperous …be safe and secure while making their way. That is the promise of America. Our president’s mission is to keep that promise alive for his constituents and future Americans.

The president does not have the ultimate power of a king or Caesar but he has the support of a majority of the American people, that’s how he gets to be president. Mr. Trump has a very unique presidential style. Some like it; some roll their eyes and some hate it, but it is his style.

From his State of the Union message President Trump seems to be holding to his promise to America, he seems to be trying for the people. This man’s first year in office was impressive for his political wins but more so because he has survived some big political losses.

The question remains: will the people be better off after his four years in office?
