BRISTOL - CW Resources Inc. is a nonprofit dedicated to serving the needs of persons with disabilities through the creation of integrated vocational training and employment opportunities.

The award winning organization and business provides “meaningful and prestigious employment opportunities” to those individuals who are physically, developmentally, emotionally, and/or socio-economically challenged.

CW’s Bristol Center at 530 Birch St. employs 110 individuals, two thirds of whom are people with disabilities. Mike Bellantuono, manager and a Bristol native, explains that CW has had a presence in Bristol since 1974.

The CW Bristol Center employs people in a variety of different jobs. They recycle bottles and cans, along with the Naugatuck CW Center, and collect them from many area restaurants and bars. They also help prepare and deliver Meals on Wheels to local seniors; run a lawn crew business in Bristol and the surrounding towns, and work in many small and large local businesses.

Headquartered in New Britain, the organization has a presence in 19 states and the District of Columbia, and provides employment for 1,400 people with disabilities. In Connecticut the company provides rehabilitation and community employment services around the state through its six regional centers. Individuals are referred to CW Resources from various state agencies.

CW Resources provides 8,000 meals daily to the elderly in Connecticut and Massachusetts and packages gravy and coffee for the U.S. military. Other lines of business include custodial, grounds maintenance, facility maintenance and ship provisioning.

Since its beginnings in 1964, the company has envisioned “an American society where persons with disabilities and the economically challenged enjoy the results of integrated vocational training and are valued and empowered as employees. The principal characteristic of this society will be the opportunity for people to make and exercise individual choices concerning their own lives, welfare and personal dignity,” according to the CW Resources website.

That philosophy has earned the organization much praise and recognition over the years.

CW Resources has been honored with the NISH Performance Excellence in Hiring Veterans with Disabilities Award, the New Britain Chamber of Commerce Award, the Mutual of America Community Partnership Award, DSCP Star Award, and many others.

Anyone interested in providing employment for the disabled through CW Resources or wants to learn more about its programs, can call Mike Bellantuono at 860-583-0401, or visit www.cwresources.org .
