BRISTOL - CV Mason has been delivering the community all of its insurance needs since 1883.

“We’re family-owned,” said Tim Wilson, whose father owns the insurance agency. “I’m a fifth generation.”

CV Mason, with its staff of just under a dozen agents, delivers more personalized service than the bigger agencies, Wilson said.

“We try to relate to our clients,” he said. “We recognize people when they come in. We can certainly talk to them if they have an issue.”

CV Mason provides all kinds of insurance needs, including home, auto and policies for small businesses. Wilson said about 70 percent of their business is personal insurance, and about 30 percent comes from small businesses.

The agency is competitive with its pricing and policies, largely because it works with about 11 different insurance companies that have different options, Wilson said.

“We want to keep all of our customers happy,” he added.

The Mason Family has been in the Insurance Business long before 1883. Carlos Luke Mason operated an insurance office in the Unionville area before the Civil War. His son, Carlos V. Mason, succeeded him and came to Bristol in 1882. He was befriended by local merchant Adrian Muzzy. His office was above Muzzy’s Store, located at the corner of Main Street and Riverside Avenue.

In 1886, Mason relocated in an office over The Bristol National Bank on Main Street, next to the Gridley House. Sometime after 1900 William Neubauer joined the agency as a partner.

In 1950 C.E. Mason joined the agency, which is now owned and run by Chris Wilson, son-in-law of C.E. Mason and Geraldine Letizia, long time staff member of the agency.
