Name: Peter Kelley

Candidate for office: City Council 2nd district, Democrat

Place of residence: Bristol

Profession: Business Development Officer at First Bristol Federal Credit Union

Education: Attended Holy Cross High School and Central Connecticut State College. Mentored in the Bristol school system for 7 years, and is Director of the Bristol Business Education Foundation.

Public service experience: Board member of the Tunxis Foundation at Tunxis Community College, and was Central Connecticut 1980 Central Boxer of the Year.

What do you hope to achieve if elected? “If elected, I have a keen interest in properly funding the city’s educational system. The Board of Education’s recently discovered budget deficit is a very troubling matter, however I don’t think we should rush to judgment until the report has been made public. Politicization of the issue, scapegoating members of the Board of Education, and grandstanding will not change the results of the forensic audit,” he said, in addition to making progress on “the development of Depot Square Development and the Memorial Boulevard Magnet School and Theater.”

Message to voters: “It’s time we provided our city’s musicians and artists with an equitable opportunity to showcase their many talents. In tandem, the city must also make a concerted effort to bring dining options and retail choices downtown. These initiatives together will provide a cultural center for our city and hopefully attract people in Bristol and surrounding towns to spend their money at our local businesses,” he said.
