Name: Anthony D’Amato
Candidate for office: City Council 1st district, Republican
Place of residence: Bristol
Profession: Works for his family’s business D’Amato Construction
Public service experience: As a councilor, D’Amato is on the Board of Public Works, the Board of Public Works Miscellaneous Committee, the Ordinance Committee, the Bristol Development Authority’s Mayor’s Economic Committee and the Hubbell School Roof Replacement Committee.
What do you hope to achieve if elected? D’Amato hopes to develop downtown, increase city-wide economic development and “to engage in some concentrated and efficient beautification efforts.” Another goal, he added is to “foster a better working relationship with the Board of Education by moving them towards a different budgeting style.” Bristol is challenged by “the slow destruction of the state, while maintaining our stable mill rate, shielding of taxpayers from the mistakes of others and still aggressively growing and marketing Bristol globally.”
Message to voters: “I have chosen to give up my salary for part of my [current] term and am committed to working entirely without salary moving forward, if I’m graced with the ability to serve again.” D’Amato said he is a team player with “working relationships with each member” on the council and the mayor. “By maintaining these types of relationships,” he said, “I have been able to be one of the more effective leaders in our city.”
