CCSU's Snoddy named Rookie of The Week for second straight week

Central Connecticut State University’s Andre Snoddy was named the Northeast Conference’s Rookie of The Week for the second straight week on Wednesday, marking the third time this men’s basketball season he has received the honor.

Snoddy tallied his first career double-double with Central, scoring a career-high 18 points with 10 reounds against LIU last week. He averaged 12 points and eight boards last week, shooting 57.9% from the floor.

Snody is one of the top freshman in the NEC, currently ranking sixth in the league overall in rebounds per game with 6.8. The number ranks him first among all freshmen. As of Wednesday he’s scoring an average of 7.6 points per game with a shooting percentage of 48.7% from the field.

SHU BEAT CCSU ON MONDAY

The Central men (4-14, 1-4 in NEC) came up short against Sacred Heart (7-10, 3-1) on Monday, losing to the Pioneers 74-66 on the road.

Central and SHU had the game at a one possession difference through the first 10 minutes, but a 6-0 run after the midway point put Sacred Heart up 18-12, and a 3-point score by Tyler Thomas made it an eight-point game with 5:44 to go in the first half.

From there, the game quickly swung in favor of Sacred Heart, with the Pioneers extending their lead to 25 points throuh the night as Tyler Thomas lit up the scoreboard. At the half, CCSU trailed 31-22, and saw Sacred Heart catch fire to make it a 20-plus point difference through the first 10 minutes of the second half.

Thomas finished with 21 points, leading all players. Nigel Scantlebury scored the high for Central Connecticut with 17 points. Both Ian Krishnan and Trenton McLaughlin scored 13 points for CCSU. Ten 3-point scores from CCSU on Monday tie the season high for the team in a game this season.

It’s the first time the two teams have played this season despite currently being 1-1 against one another. A Jan. 6 meeting was canceled due to COVID-19 protocols, with the Blue Devils receiving a win.
