The Northeast Conference named its Athletes of The Week last week, several of which were Central Connecticut State University student-athletes.
In women’s cross country, the Blue Devil women had its leading runner in Angie Rafter selected by the conference after dominant finish at the Ted Owen Invitational.
Rafter finished Saturday’s 5K at time of 17:35.5, a 15 second gap between her and the runner-up. Her time was a tenth of a second improvement form her NEC Championship time a year prior.
It is the second time Rafter has received the honor from the NEC this season. She was a two-time recipient of the honor during the 2019-20 season as well.
Also named Athlete of The Week out of the Ted Owen Invitational was the Blue Devils’ Eddie Nicholas from the men’s cross country program.
Nicholas’ time in the 8K race was a clip of 26:00.7, which was a meet-winning time. He was five seconds ahead of the runner-up, and was Nicholas’ first win in a collegiate meet.
SULLIVAN, HORGAN NAMED NEC ROTW
A third award was handed out to an individual from the Ted Owens Invitational as James Sullivan was picked for Rookie of The Week in men’s cross country.
Sullivan crossed the line 19 seconds after Nicholas, and was the first freshman runner to cross the line in the men’s race.
In women’s soccer Aoife Horgan was selected by the NEC as Rookie and Player of The Week.
Horgan tallied an assist off a Kelly Brady score in Sunday’s match against St. Francis, and then followed Brady’s score with the first of her collegiate career before halftime.
She then added another in the second half, finishing the night with two scores on two shots on net.
ROUFS NAMED DPOTW
Isabelle Roufs’ play for the Blue Devils’ volleyball team helped bring attention to the NEC last week, helping her receive the Defensive Player of The Week.
In one road swing, she helped block 10 shots at the net, including two solos in a 3-0 shutout over Merrimack.
She’s now up to 64 blocks on the season, leading her team.
