Central Connecticut State University is the current favorite in the Northeast Conference entering the women’s cross country season.
The Blue Devil women received eight votes in the preseason coaches poll last week, putting them ahead of the field after capping off last season with the program’s third NEC title in as many seasons.
Junior Ashley Dana finished first in the championship race and was followed by her teammate, senior Angie Rafter, who was in stride with her at .1 seconds behind. Dana was named Most Outstanding Performer by the NEC.
Rafter will be returning to run for one final season with the Blue Devils. Last year, Rafter was named to the All-NEC team and was the NEC's Cross Country Scholar Athlete of the year.
The Blue Devil women are scheduled to start the fall season Sept. 4 when they travel to Marist to run in the Marist Season Opener.
