Central Connecticut’s J’Von Brown was named to the Stats Perform FCS preseason All-America third team Monday afternoon.
The two-time All-American nomination is also a two-time all-Northeast Conference first team selection, and has played a crucial role on an offensive line that allowed the Blue Devils to post 289.3Â rushing yards per game in six conference games in 2018.Â
They had 2,460 total rushing yards on the season and posted the nation's 21st best rushing attack at 223.6 yards per game on the ground. On top of creating a strong run game, he was part of a group that helped protect the quarterback well – allowing eight sacks in 11 games for an 0.73 sacks per-game mark that was seventh best in the country. The Blue Devils led the country allowing just 32 tackles for a loss in the entire season as well.
In 2019 CCSU’s offense lead the NEC in scoring, total offense and rushing. The Blue Devils averaged 214.2 yards on the ground, ranking 17th nationally.
CCSU is coming off an 11-2 season in 2019 where it went undefeated (7-0) in NEC play, winning the conference title. The Blue Devils ranked 22nd in the season-ending Top 25 poll and advanced to the FCS Playoffs for the second time in school history before being bounced by Albany.
The Blue Devils then opted out of the 2020-21 season due to the ongoing COVD-19 pandemic.
